Update: Boy's Lax Has New Officiating Rules

Posted by Jordan Snider on Oct 14, 2017 9:47:20 AM

US Lax magazine highlighted that in July, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) revised boy's lacrosse officiating rules.  The new rules aim to improve safety, provide consistency across the age levels, and keep the game exciting for players and spectators.  Here's a sample of rule adjustments:

  • penalty for improper wearing of mouthpiece
  • allowing schools to use a unified field for both boys and girls
  • end-of-game-shot will be counted if it is released before the end of the period

Rick Lake, senior manager of the men’s game for US Lacrosse said about the end-of-the-game-shot,  “It is an exciting play that should be well received by players, coaches, and fans of the game.  It will also align with other levels of the sport. If the rules are more closely aligned at all levels, as in this case, it is easier for the new or casual fans to understand the game they are watching. One of the goals of any committee is to make sure the game is exciting and I think this rule was a good move."
