Volleyball Breaks Language Barrier

Volleyball is an original American sport created by William G. Morgan, an instructor at the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1895.  In its inception, volleyball was originally called Mintonette and with some changes to the rules, it was known as volleyball by 1896.  Volleyball spread by way of the YMCA branches that were located nationwide.  By the early 1900's, volleyball was being played in distant shores like Cuba and the Philippines.  Today, more than 46 million Americans play volleyball.
