Enjoyment is key and according to a 2014 George Washington University survey 9 out of 10 kids says they play sports because it is fun.  Fun includes a good coach, playing team, doing your best, etc.  Having some understanding of these 4 thoughts may help your child athlete:

  • know the difference between enjoyment and pleasure, not everyone finds pleasure in a tough drills but they can enjoy the game
  • ask and listen to the reasons why your child play sports
  • be honest with yourself and your child as to the reasons why they are playing a sport
  • know the development level your child is at and nurture the love of sport
