Future Stars Chess Camp gives campers the opportunity to develop and nurture their love of chess and enhance their skills in an inspiring and fun atmosphere.
Our experienced director provides high-level chess training programs for children ages 5-14 (novice through advanced levels), where each camper is individually evaluated to determine best fit based on age and level of play.
Campers will discover new friendships while balancing the challenge of competitive teamwork with individual effort. In addition, students will participate in various multi-sport activities to garner a healthy mix throughout the day.

DIRECTOR Ulysses Tapley has been an avid chess player since the age of 9. After 26 years of employment at Brookhaven National Laboratory, he took an early retirement package and a leap of faith to pursue his passion. He enjoys playing chess, but he enjoys teaching chess even more. He is fondly known as Coach “T” and enjoys teaching children and adults of all skill levels.
The game of chess keeps him quite busy - he currently teaches at Bridgehampton and Southampton Libraries, Southampton Youth Bureau, Southampton Youth Services, The Children’s Museum of the East End, St. John Paul Second Regional Catholic School and the Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreation Center.
We’re thrilled to have him with us at Future Stars. His motto for chess and life is, “when you find a good move, look for a better one.” - GM Emmanuel Lasker Ulysses is a member of the United States Chess Federation.
He currently resides in Riverhead with his wife, Jackie. He has two adult children.
