CHARACTER

Safety is first for a reason. Ingrained in everything we do, safety paves the way for our campers to thrive in a healthy environment.
Teamwork challenges our campers to collaborate thoughtfully and teaches us that, “we are not on a team because we work together, we are on a team because we respect, trust, and care for one another.”
Attitude is everything, our coaches discuss both the good and the bad of attitudes; guiding campers to consider the power of an open and growth-oriented mind.
Responsibility fosters a supportive and thriving community, which takes effort from every single member. We encourage every camper to take ownership of their actions, just as they do their belongings.
Sportsmanship is more than just a handshake at the end of a game. We encourage our campers to honor differences and celebrate similarities of everyone in our community, all the while playing hard and playing fair.

What does it mean to be a Future Star?

Our S.T.A.R.S. acronym tells our campers and parents of what it means to be a part of the Future Stars Southampton family. We aim to help our campers understand the value and interconnectedness of Safety, Teamwork, Attitude, Responsibility, and Sportsmanship. Through fun and engaging activities each day of every camp week, our staff of professional coaches/educators emphasizes one of these values, discussing its importance and encouraging campers to recognize the power they hold to contribute positively to a community or a team. Whether on the baseball field, in a chess match, or on a paddle board, we strive to equip every camper with the tools to be a Future Star for any community they may be a part of!

Meet Our Site Director

We’re excited to introduce you to our Director at our Suffolk Community College Riverhead Campus: Keegan Johnson.

Keegan is a passionate, caring individual who strives to make a difference in the lives of children. Sports have always been a major part of his life and have taught him lessons that have shaped his path. Keegan joined the Future Stars team in 2016 as a counselor for the Little Stars program in Southampton. Prior to joining us, Keegan attended Georgetown University on a track scholarship, where he was a successful 400m runner and triple jumper. Due to injury, he was forced to return to Long Island to finish his Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue. From there, Keegan attended LIU Brooklyn, where he obtained a Master of Science Degree in Education with a concentration in School Psychology.

After Graduating in 2013, Keegan returned to his alma mater, Longwood School District in Middle Island, where he’s worked for 8 years and is currently a school psychologist. Keegan also works at night school for high school students that require an alternative learning program in order to graduate. He volunteers as a “My Brother’s Keeper” liaison for the district as well. Keegan’s commitment to being a positive influence for local youth is coupled with various other professional positions he’s held. He’s worked in custodial services, summer school programs, County and State Civil Service exam proctoring, child counseling services, babysitting, travel chaperone, and - second only to being a team member at Future Stars - as a DJ for events throughout Long Island.

With that background, and an unwavering commitment to making sure our campers are happy and safe, we are thrilled to have Keegan leading our inaugural camp season!
