Adventure Camp offers unique weekly sessions, and although the environment changes on a daily basis, the constant is an adventurous spirit and a growth mindset.
David O'Keeffe will direct and oversee Adventure Camp. Coach Dave is a certified Physical Education and Health Teacher, and brings years of experience - including Project Adventure style initiatives - to our program.
Summer 2024 Session 6 runs from August 5 - August 9.
The first day of the session will feature a morning of ice-breaker activities and staff presentations as to the goals and expectations of the program. Campers will participate in cooperative games and discuss the themes for the week (Communication / Problem Solving / Self-Esteem).
Off campus trips during the early part of the session include trips to the Indoor Adventure Activities at Urban Air (Dix Hills) as well as Kayaking and SUP with Kostal Paddle (Port Washington).
The middle of the week will see our campers visit Nassau Boces Outdoor Education Center (Brookville) where they will participate in numerous teambuilding activities utilizing both the low challenge and high challenge courses.
Thursday will feature our on campus 'Future Stars Amazing Race' where campers will be assigned teams and then have to naviagte a variety of challenges to make it to the finish line and earn their 'finishers medal'
*Challenges will incorporate aspects of 'Orienteering', Scavenger Hunt, and OCR during this weeks race!
The week will end with a trip on Friday to Long Island Adventure Park (Wheatley Heights) where campers will get experience Long Island's Most Amazing Outdoor Adventure Experience.
By promoting positive working relationships throughout the week, the staff will encourage leadership roles and while working on 'project adventure' style initiatives.

*Program is based at SUNY Old Westbury with on-campus activities utilizing collegiate facilities.
*Daily drop-off and pick-up will take place at SUNY Old Westbury, with off-campus trips utilizing the Future Stars transportation provider.
*Campers attending Adventure Camp will be required to submit additional waivers for specific trip locations.
*Registed campers will receive all paperwork and itinerary prior to the start of the session.
