BUILD, CODE, AND CREATE

Future Stars Minecraft & Roblox Developers Camp is a fun and engaging way for children and teens to learn coding, engineering, and game design using platforms they already love. Minecraft and Roblox are increasingly used as educational tools, and this camp taps into their creative power to help campers learn more effectively through hands-on exploration.

Through teacher-guided projects, campers work at a level suited to their individual skills and interests. Minecraft activities range from 3D modeling content from Minecraft to be 3d printed using professional 3D design software and out in house 3D Printers, to extremely fun team based challenges that incentivize campers to communicate, work together, and strategize in groups of 4 to 15 students. In Roblox Studio, campers learn coding, game development, build upon block-based programming skills, and progress toward more advanced concepts, including JavaScript and other programming languages.

Each week features new projects, cooperative challenges, and friendly competitions. Programs take place in collegiate classrooms and computer labs with all necessary equipment provided. Recreational games and Water Park activities provide a balanced day of learning and fun.

Campers who bring a flash drive receive a copy of the professional 3D design software to continue building their skills at home.

Carol Wilson

STEAM Education Director

Carol’s mission as an educator is to inspire her students each and every day to innovate and develop solutions to the challenges we face on a daily basis. To that end, Carol can’t wait to work with and have fun with our future scientists, engineers, coders and detectives this summer!

Carol is a distinguished educator of nearly thirty years. She has performed a variety of roles in the East Islip School District as a teacher of 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade. Most recently, Carol helped the East Islip School District to pioneer their S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) program, where she teaches students in grades 3-5 to create, design, and communicate in teams to solve everyday problems.

Carol holds an M.A. in Reading and Special Education from Dowling College, as well as a B.A. in Elementary Education and Spanish from Clemson University. She also holds an SBL degree in administration and is currently a supervisor of student teachers at St. Joseph’s University in Patchogue.

Carol was the head varsity volleyball coach at East Islip between 1994-2001, leading the Redmen to multiple Section XI playoff appearances, with teams consisting of athletes who would go on to compete at the college level in NCAA Division I and III. She was also selected in 2012 as the faculty recipient of the National Blue Ribbon Award for Timber Point Elementary School.

In her time away from school, Carol enjoys hiking, gardening, and spending time with her two sons.
