Campers explore a variety of STEAM subjects each week in a collaborative and inspiring Makerspace environment. Select sessions during each week allow campers to focus on their favorite subjects, while returning campers can advance their skills, discover new interests, and combine what they’ve learned in creative ways. For example, campers who explore Stop Motion Animation and 3D Design & Printing can use their skills to design and print custom props for their movies!
Future Stars STEAM Camp, designed in partnership with the experts at MakeInspires, provides an enriching environment where campers can inspire one another and combine skills across disciplines.
CORE STEAM Subjects
3D Design & Printing with TinkerCAD
Experience the cutting-edge technology of 3D printing! Campers learn to use TinkerCAD, an accessible Computer-Aided Design (CAD) program, to design creations ranging from futuristic houses to functional products and imaginative toys. Campers will produce unique designs, being able to take home two prints per week. These 3D prints will be ready for pickup during the camp week or the following week.
Creating Video Games with Scratch & MakeCode
Campers delve into the exciting world of video game creation by designing their own 2D games. Through block-based programming in Scratch and MakeCode, they learn coding fundamentals, such as loops and logic, while fostering creativity and problem-solving skills. Whether beginners or experienced coders, all campers will enjoy creating interactive stories and games while gaining insight into the complexity of game development.
Architecture & Coding with Minecraft Education
Minecraft takes on a whole new level in this camp! Using a custom world, campers learn about architecture styles such as Roman, Greek, and Brutalist, while exploring the work of influential architects. Campers also create virtual helpers to accomplish tasks and tackle challenges, developing their problem-solving and computer programming logic. This activity combines the fun of Minecraft with hands-on learning in design and coding.
Robotics Adventures
Dive into the world of robotics! Campers program and customize robots, learning how sensors, components, and coding work together to create functional designs. From simple assembly to advanced programming in block-based and text-based languages like Python, campers gain valuable skills applicable to school, college, and beyond. Counselors guide them through fun challenges that inspire creativity and teamwork.
Design & Engineering
Campers explore the principles behind design and engineering in the world around them. Through hands-on activities, such as bridge building, structural testing, and model creation, they learn to design and construct with various materials, including cardboard, Legos, and upcycled items. Campers tackle exciting challenges like building boats that hold weight or creating the tallest structures, all while applying design-based thinking to inspire innovation and creativity.
Circuit Adventures
Campers explore the fundamentals of circuits and electricity through engaging, hands-on activities. They learn about key concepts like voltage, resistors, and batteries while creating paper circuit art, light-up robots, and more. Using tools like copper tape, LEDs, and motors, campers bring their creations to life and develop an understanding of the technology powering everyday devices.
Science Rocks
This week sparks excitement through fun, educational experiments. From stomp rockets to creating lightning, campers explore concepts like surface tension, matter, exothermic reactions, and acids and bases. With every experiment, campers develop curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for science and chemistry.
Stop Motion Animation & Filmmaking
Campers step into the exciting world of storytelling through stop motion animation and filmmaking. By creating scenes and moving objects incrementally, campers bring their ideas to life as animated movies. They also explore live-action filmmaking, learning about teamwork, production steps, and creative techniques while making parody commercials, music videos, and short films.
