The Future Stars Flag Football Camp (ages 6-14) is designed to encourage all players to transition into the sport of football without contact.

JULY COVID Update;  Flag Football Camp will be following a modified half day schedule 9am-12:30pm for Summer 2020. The adjusted schedule will follow NYS and CDC Guidelines for 'Day Camps' and 'Youth Sports - Return to Play'. Coaches will prioritize activities that maintain physical distancing, whilst allowing campers to work on their skills in a safe and fun environment. Registered campers will be sent additional info on program protocols, daily schedule, and other pertinent details prior to the start of the program.


Campers are able to develop and/or fine-tune their offensive and defensive football skillsets, including but not limited to, footwork, route running, pass protection, passing, pass coverage, field awareness, and strength and agility work. Our expert, adult staff will provide campers with many opportunities to drill the correct techniques needed to excel on the field in a safe and fun environment. 

Flag Football will be completely non-contact and is appropriate for all levels and abilities.

Director: Rob Hickson
Coach Rob, a big kid at heart, who is passionate about all things football, brings with him 11 years of coaching experience, plus a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Florida International University (FIU). Subsequently, Rob earned a master's degree from St. John's University in Sports Management with a focus in Coaching.

While studying at St. John's, he coached two years with the SUNY Maritime College Football Team (2010 and 2011). During his first season he coached running backs and contributed to finishing 9th for overall rushing yards in the nation as well as going 10-0 in the regular season and becoming the ECFC 2010 Champions.

The following season (2011), he changed positions to coach the cornerbacks where he contributed to finishing the season 2nd in Passing Defense and 8th Overall Defense in the Nation as well as an 8-2 winning season. From these efforts, Rob received “Assistant Coach of the Year” Award, voted by the players.

Coach Rob moved on to coach with Monroe College during its inaugural football season in 2012, where he coached outside linebackers. Following this opportunity, he accepted a seasonal position with the National Football League as the Regional Combine Assistant for the Player Personnel Department.

Coach Rob believes that being a part of an athlete’s life and seeing them grow into young men and women is something you cannot put a price on. He has a passion to see sports impact student athletes and build characteristics in them like leadership, teamwork, courage, trust, respect and accountability. Coach Rob was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He and his wife have enjoyed living in NYC for 9 years with their 2 year old and infant daughters.

 

FACILITIES

St. Joseph's College, Long Island, is conveniently located in Patchogue off Sunrise Hwy. South Service Road just east of Waverly Ave.

The John A. Danzi Athletic Center on main campus contains a number of outstanding features for camp use including: 25-yard heated swimming pool, strength training room, aerobics/dance room, general purpose room, basketball courts, volleyball courts, elevated track (1/12 mile), state-of-the-art fitness room, men’s and women’s locker rooms and lavatories.

Also on main campus is the newly completed Business and Technology Center, which Future Stars utilizes for many of our STEAM programs.  Within the B & T Center are state of the art computer labs that boast the most up to date equipment and software, air-conditioning, Smart Boards, surround sound, not to mention a full-time security guard and brand new lavatories.

The new 25-acre outdoor field complex will be the focal point for many of our sport specific programs. The Danzi Stadium includes a 400-meter all-weather track (six-lane turns, eight-lane straights), long jump pits, high jump and pole vault areas, synthetic turf field for soccer and lacrosse and a grandstand. Gregg Alfano Field features a synthetic turf infield, clay pitcher’s mound, natural grass outfield that reaches 403 feet in center field, bleachers and dugouts. The Softball Stadium Includes a clay infield, a natural grass outfield that reaches 210 feet to dead center and dugouts. An additional jewel in the Outdoor Field Complex crown are the six new Deco Turf tennis courts. There are also clean and air-conditioned bathrooms, and a full-time security guard dedicated solely to the campers’ safety. 

LEADERSHIP

Director: John Mees – tenure w/ Future Stars – 13 years.

After serving as site-director of our Southampton location for 10 years, John decided to move closer to home and run our St. Joseph’s site. John is passionate about education and summer camp. He, along with fellow peers in the field of education, helped design and implement the character-development curriculum inherent in all program offerings at St. Joe’s.

John has taught honors Spanish at Mount Sinai High School for the past 12 years. In addition to his classroom duties, John also coaches all three seasons comprising boys varsity golf, girls varsity basketball, and girls varsity golf. He has coached numerous league champions and all-county performers in golf, and helped lead the girls varsity basketball to Mt. Sinai's first Suffolk County title in 2017 and another in 2019.

John received his bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina, at Chapel Hill and went on to earn master's degrees from both the University of Connecticut and Stony Brook University.
John lives in Sayville with his wife, son, and two dogs.

After serving as director of Rising Stars of Future Stars at Farmingdale State College, and as assistant director of soccer in Southampton, Joe has joined forces with the talented staff at St. Joseph’s College to help establish a premier summer camp in central Suffolk County.

Joe, and his devoted staff, are the driving forces behind the tremendous success of our multi-sport program. Launching events like the Bike Rodeo, Color Run, Olympics Week, Color War Week, Future Stars Triathlon and offering day trips to Splish Splash, LI Ducks and many more, have made the multi-sport program a can’t miss experience!

Joe teaches high school science in the Bellmore-Merrick school district where he coaches both cross-country and volleyball. During his tenure at Bellmore-Merrick, Joe has also coached football, track, and baseball.

Joe received his bachelor's degree from Hofstra University in exercise physiology and went on to earn a master's degree from Dowling College in education. Prior to his teaching career, he served as the head exercise physiologist at Lifeline Cardiac Rehabilitation Center in Great Neck for 3 years. Joe currently lives in Miller Place with his wife and two children

Summer 2020 programs will run from July 6th to August 21st. Flexible weekly scheduling is available. Each camp week is Monday to Friday, 9am to 12:30pm.

Directions to the Danzi Athletic Center on main campus:

From the West: Travel east on Sunrise Highway (Rt 27) to Exit 52 – Waverly Avenue. Continue on the Sunrise Highway Service Road. The College entrance and parking facilities are located 1000 feet beyond the traffic light, past Waverly Avenue.

From the East: Travel west on Sunrise Highway (Rt 27) to Exit 52. Turn left at the first light onto Waverly Avenue, over the overpass, then turn left again at the next light onto the Sunrise Highway Service Road. The college entrance and parking facilities are located 1000 feet to the right).

Directions to the Outdoor Field Complex (OFC):

From the West: Take Sunrise Highway (Route 27) east to Exit 53 (Route 112). Take exit and then stay on South Service Road past Rt. 112. Complex will be ahead on your right just past Phyllis Drive.

From the East: Take Sunrise Highway (Route 27) west to Exit 53 (Route 112). Stay on North Service Road and make left at light on Route 112. Make left at next light onto south service road. Complex will be ahead on your right just past Phyllis Drive.)

Swim

*Due to program modifications as a result of Covid19, there will be NO Recreational Swim for campers during Summer 2020*

Future Stars have use of St.Joseph's College pool during the summer camp season.

  • The heated pool is located indoors at the Danzi Athletic Center.
  • The pool is maintained by St.Joseph's College Athletics Department and has a Certified Pool Operator on-site throughout the summer.
  • The pool is inspected by NY state (Suffolk County) Department of Health.

Campers have a recreational swim every day for about 45 minutes. Rising Stars and youngest Multi-Sports campers will also receive instructional swim each day.
Campers participating in the programs at the Outdoor Field Complex, a school bus provides transportation to and from the main campus for the campers and coaches.

Pool safety is taken very seriously, and the pool staff is highly qualified and carry numerous accolades and certifications, including WSI, Lifeguard Management, Lifeguard, First-Aid, and CPR_AED for the Professional Rescuer. They are involved in the 'Learn to Swim' program throughout the year.
Every Monday, each new camper is swim tested to determine level and ability, with regular buddy checks taken by our pool staff.

In addition to the pool, we also host our 'Future Stars Water Park' at the main campus field. At least three times a week, there will be inflatable water slides for campers to enjoy.

Lunch

 *Due to program modifications as a result of Covid19, there will be NO Lunch period for campers during Summer 2020*

Registered campers must bring their own lunch at the St.Joes site. Please pack lunch in a cooler type bag, as there is no refrigeration for lunches. All campers will eat in the air conditioned cafeteria located inside O'Connor Hall on the main campus.

There are plenty of drinking water fountains throughout campus, in addition to vending machines should your camper wish to purchase a drink during the day.

We are committed to being a 'nut-free' camp, so please make every effort to avoid packing foods that include nut products.
